1.1 Million Tax Returns Filed In Maryland, $1.1B Paid Out So Far

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot urges those who haven't filed yet to e-file.

MARYLAND — The tax filing season kicked off Jan. 27 and as of March 6, the Maryland Comptroller's officer had processed 1,131,969 returns with more than $1.1 billion in total refund payments issued.

Comptroller Peter Franchot on Friday urged Marylanders to e-file, noting that it’s "the most secure and efficient way to submit a tax return." Most Marylanders who file electronically receive their state refunds within 2.1 business days, he said.

“As my office continues to detect tax fraud and identity theft schemes, e-filing is the safest way for Marylanders to submit tax returns,” said Franchot in a statement. “It also helps us to more quickly process returns and get refunds back to hardworking taxpayers.”
