1 Killed After Small Plane Crashes Into River On MD's Eastern Shore
Authorities said the twin-engine Cessna took off from Fort Meade before crashing into the Tred Avon River in Talbot County.

TALBOT COUNTY, MD — A person is dead after a small plane crashed into the Tred Avon River in Talbot County on Tuesday, according to Maryland State Police.
Authorities said the twin-engine Cessna 402 took off from Tipton Airport at Fort Meade around 9 a.m. before crashing into the river near Easton. Police believe the pilot was headed to Easton Airport when the crash occurred.
Troopers were called to the scene near the 6800 block of Travelers Rest Circle after witnesses called 911 to report the crash.

Divers from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department also responded and recovered one victim from the water, state police said. He was declared dead at the scene.
According to a WJLA report citing the Federal Aviation Administration, the crash was caused by engine failure and the pilot was the only person in the plane at the time of the crash.

Authorities did not release the victim's name pending notification of family.
The Maryland Natural Resources Police Underwater Operations Team and other teams from Queen Anne’s, Dorchester, and Talbot counties assisted in the search, police said.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
