ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — A Severna Park man recently won $100,000 on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off that he bought in Annapolis. The 60-year-old will use the top prize to pay off his debts and retire, the lottery announced last Tuesday.

The father and grandfather has worked for a grocery store chain for more than 40 years. He has worked in and managed departments like produce, billing, and receiving at numerous stores in the chain.

The anonymous man plans to keep his victory a secret from everybody except his wife, who will continue working after he retires.

The winner buys Powerball and Mega Millions tickets each week after work. He adds a scratch-off or two if he has extra cash in his pocket.

This time, the man bought a $3 game and a $5 Ravens X5 scratcher. He then went home to relax after his shift.

The victor used his Maryland Lottery mobile application to scan the tickets. The $3 scratch-off won him $10, but the Ravens X5 game showed a message directing him to visit a lottery retailer.

The winner got dressed again and went to the liquor store where he bought the ticket. An employee at the store scanned the ticket and delivered the good news that he won $100,000. The worker printed out the information, and the lottery player went home to lock his winning ticket in a safe.

The liquor store will also get a reward for selling the winning scratch-off. Scott Brothers Wine & Spirits, located in Annapolis at 936 Bay Ridge Road, will collect a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

The winner frequently enters his non-winning scratchers into his My Lottery Rewards account for the chance to win prizes like those available through the Ravens Second-Chance Promotion.

That promotion has final drawings on Dec. 5, 2022 and Jan. 2, 2023. Prizes up for grabs include:

  • $10,000 cash
  • 2023 season tickets
  • A Pass for Cash game-day experience
  • Finalist status, which includes a $10,000 cash prize, to win season tickets for 20 years

Players can qualify by entering their non-winning Ravens scratch-offs into their lottery rewards account.
