2 Brooklyn Men Critically Burned In Fire, 2 Firefighters Injured

Two Brooklyn residents are in critical condition with burns suffered in a fire at a home; two firefighters were treated at hospitals.

BROOKLYN, MD — Two Brooklyn residents are in critical condition with burns suffered in a Thursday afternoon house fire, while two firefighters were treated at hospitals, say Anne Arundel County Fire Department officials. Fire crews initially believed the residents were trapped in the house in the 5200 block of Fourth Street.

Firefighters arrived to find flames on the first and second floors of the end of the group row home, and went inside the home to search for trapped occupants. The two residents were soon located in the backyard of the home; they had escaped the fire before firefighter's arrived.

The fire was brought under control in 10 minutes by county firefighters assisted by firefighters from Baltimore City.

The residents — a 51-year-old man and a 52-year-old man — were both taken to the Burn Center at John Hopkins Bayview Hospital with critical and life-threatening injuries.

One firefighter suffered minor burns and was also treated at the Burn Center at Hopkins Bayview. A second firefighter was treated at Baltimore Washington Medical Center for medical reasons. Both firefighters have been discharged from the hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $75,000.
