Annapolis Primary Election Results: 2 Incumbents, 1 Newcomer Lead Early

Two Annapolis incumbents are ahead in the city council primary election. One newcomer is also leading. Here are the early ballot counts.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Two Democratic incumbents have the early lead in the Annapolis City Council primary election. One challenger is ahead of their opponent, who is the current officeholder.

The races are for Wards three, four and eight. These are the only districts where multiple candidates from the same party sought the nomination. No Republican races were contested.

Polls closed Tuesday at 8 p.m. The City of Annapolis Board of Supervisors of Elections released preliminary results about an hour and a half later.

As of 9:26 p.m., these were the unofficial vote counts in each race. The names of incumbents are bolded and underlined.

City Council Ward 3

  • Rhonda Pindell Charles (D): 70
  • Keanuú Smith-Brown (D): 28

City Council Ward 4

  • Sheila M. Finlayson (D): 47
  • Toni Strong Pratt (D): 84

City Council Ward 8

  • Ross H. Arnett (D): 42
  • Kathleen George (D): 25

These early totals only include the votes cast at the polls on Tuesday. Residents also had the option to vote by dropbox or by mail.

Officials will release additional vote tallies Wednesday. This count will include dropbox and mail-in ballots received on or before last Thursday, Sept. 16.

Workers will then tally the provisional, dropbox and mail-in ballots collected at later dates. Authorities will release the final totals on Sept. 28.

General Election

The general election is on Nov. 2. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents must register to vote at this link by Oct. 4. Locals can check if they are already registered by clicking here.

Annapolis will mail a ballot to all registered voters before the election. Residents can send their completed ballots by mail to the indicated address or they can place them in a dropbox at any precinct.

Residents who prefer to vote in person should ignore the ballot mailed to them. They must vote at their assigned precinct on election day. Those polling and dropbox locations are listed on this website.
