3 Students Shot While Exiting Annapolis School Bus Released From Hospital: Reports

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The three juveniles shot Friday while exiting a school bus in Annapolis have been released from the hospital, reports said.

Authorities said the victims were stable and recovering well as of Saturday morning.

The Annapolis Police Department said the shooting happened around 4:20 p.m. in the Bywater Mutual Homes neighborhood. That's around the time that middle school buses take students home.

WBFF and WMAR both reported that the victims, ages 12 and 13, were shot as they got off their school bus.

Officers told Patch that the students were not the intended targets. Authorities said they don't yet have a suspect or motive identified.

WMAR and The Capital said the shooting happened near Copeland and Royal streets.

The children were shot in the "lower extremities," a police spokesperson told The Capital. The spokesperson said the victims were released by Saturday evening and were recovering at home.

WBAL reported that a Maryland State Police helicopter flew at least two of the victims to the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore.

"This was a traumatic event for young people and families in our community," the Annapolis Police Department said in a press release. "Annapolis Police detectives have been in contact with Anne Arundel County Public Schools, who have resources available."

Counselors and student services staff will be available at schools on Monday. Additional staff will be provided as needed.

The Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland offered a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest or an indictment on felony charges. The Metro Crime Stoppers is a non-police organization that collects tips and shares them with detectives.
