When my husband and I first had the idea of starting a local group to dance salsa here in Annapolis --we didn't quite know how it would all turn out. All we knew was that there was NO WHERE to dance salsa in Annapolis and we were suffering because of it. Prior to moving to the Annapolis area--we lived in DC, and we frequented The Salsa Room in VA and Havana Village in DC. We would even drive as far as Baltimore to dance at the Latin Palace. ( Can you tell we are hooked on salsa?)
We started the group in June of last year --and now we have 103 Salsa Lovers --and counting! And we are pretty darn proud of that!! After getting over that first "hump" of securing members --we had to secure a place to dance. And let me tell you, this process was surprisingly difficult. As residents of Annapolis Town Center, our first stop was to check in with the various restaurants in the area. I love all of the restaurants in ATC, but the ones we spoke with weren't crazy about the idea of hosting a monthly Salsa party. We checked out a few spots on West Street and had no luck there as well. In fact, it took us about 6 months to find a suitable place to host our Salsa events. I am very happy to say that the Metropolitan on West Street has graciously agreed to host our events. The space is fantastic --large enough for us to have space to really dance --and small enough so that a medium sized group of dancers aren't overwhelmed with empty space. We dance on the second floor. So far its just a small group of us...but we hope to expand very soon!!!
