Accused Heroin Dealer Arrested on Street After Police Smell Weed

Annapolis Police say a man was arrested with 57 baggies of heroin and nearly $3,000 cash on him.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A man police say was selling heroin out of his car was arrested in Annapolis last week with the illegal drug and lots of cash on him.

About 10:30 a.m. on May 3, Annapolis Police officers saw Akeem Young, 28, of Annapolis in the 700 block of Newtowne Drive, where he was walking back and forth to a vehicle parked with the engine running.

Young was sought on an open warrant for trespassing, so police arrested him as he sat inside the vehicle.

Officers reported they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from Young’s vehicle and when it was searched they found 57 baggies of suspected heroin with a total weight of 32.9 grams. The contents of one of the bags field-tested positive for heroin.

A small suspected marijuana cigarette was also located inside the vehicle.

Young was searched and $2,227 and three cell phones were found in his pockets. A small amount of suspected marijuana was also recovered from Young.

Police have charged Young with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute and possession of CDS not marijuana.

He was released from the Jennifer Road Detention Center after posting $75,000 bond.
