After Death Of Capitol Police Officers, Flags Lower To Half-Staff

ANNAPOLIS, MD — After the death of two U.S. Capitol Police officers, President Donald Trump ordered the American flag to half-mast. It will remain lowered until sunset on Wednesday.

The Maryland flag will also go to half-staff. No flag may fly higher than the United States banner.

The Capitol Police said officer Brian D. Sicknick died last Thursday after a confrontation with a disruptive mob on Wednesday. He was 42.

Officer Howard Liebengood died days later, police added. He was 51.

The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia noted that these civilians also died on the Capitol grounds Wednesday: Rosanne Boyland, 34, of Kennesaw, Georgia; Kevin Greeson, 55, of Athens, Alabama; and Benjamin Phillips, 50, of Ringtown, Pennsylvania.
