A release issued by the Anne Arundel County Police Department on Thursday said charges were tied to "an incident unrelated to their duties."

Ploor is assigned to the Bureau of Administration, according to the release.

Court records list the charges as first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. First-degree assault is considered a felony charge.

All three counts were tied back to an incident that occurred on Tuesday.

The release issued by the department did not specify the events that preceded the charges, but did indicate a criminal investigation was launched after the Office of Professional Standards became aware of the incident.

A criminal summons was issued by the District Court Commissioner on Tuesday.

Police Chief Amal Awad said the findings raised in the Ploor case were "concerning," adding that the department would be cooperating with the Office of the State's Attorney moving forward.

Ploor has been suspended without pay for the duration of the internal investigation being carried out by the department.
