ANNAPOLIS, MD — Gavin Buckley, who's running to represent the 6th District on the County Council, has officially qualified to operate his campaign under the public financing program.
Buckley qualified after his campaign collected more than $14,000 in small donations from over 100 residents.
Under program rules, Buckley's campaign can only receive a max of $250 in individual donations from residents. It also bars any donations from corporations, businesses, unions and PACs, among other entities.
“I chose to run under Public Financing because I believe it’s more important now than ever, to live by the values we want to see in our politics,” Buckley said in a release.

“We know that big money is changing the political landscape across the country, so it was very important to me to demonstrate my commitment to transparency and accountability. Public financing was one clear way I could do that and show that I will be accountable to county residents, not developers, or businesses, or any other organization.”
The County Council candidate said the milestone marks how well his campaign has registered with 6th District voters.
"It makes me more determined than ever to put my skills, experience and values to work for the residents of District 6," he added.
The former Annapolis mayor had announced in February that he intended to run his election bid on funds from residents in the community. He remains the only candidate to operate his campaign in step with the program.
