ANNAPOLIS, MD — A new men's clothing and lifestyle store is opening at the end of the month in the Eastport area.
MRE Mercantile, founded by Travis and Cara Loving, will officially open to the public at 12 p.m. on May 30 at 318 Sixth St.
The husband-wife team describes the store as a place where men can "shop, style and socialize."
“MRE Mercantile is a mash up of American style and southern hospitality,” Cara said in a release. “When people come in the door, we hope that they feel welcomed and excited and curious to get to know us and our brands.”
She said the store's products were chosen "very intentionally."
“We want to curate brands that have heritage and history, that care about the craftsmanship of the garments — things that can last for a long time,” Cara said.
The "MRE" that makes up the store's name stands for the "Maritime Republic of Eastport."
Travis said the couple chose the Eastport site because they felt "inspired" by the "quirky vibe of the neighborhood and the community spirit."
"We hope people understand it’s more than just selling goods," he said. "It’s about the community experience."
The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. MRE Mercantile is closed Monday.
