MD Cheer Coach Accused Of Sexually Abusing A Minor

Police said the alleged abuse took place at the Annapolis man's business on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY, MD — A cheerleading coach from Annapolis is facing charges after authorities accused him of sexually abusing a minor at his business on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Dustin Moss Burket, 52, is charged with second-degree rape, abuse of a minor, fourth-degree sexual offense, and second-degree assault, Maryland State Police said in a statement. Burket is the owner and operator of Eastern Shore Cheer Academy in Stevensville.

According to an indictment against Burket, the alleged activities between Burket and the juvenile victim, a 9-year-old girl, occurred last summer and this spring on academy property.

The Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division launched an investigation into Burket last month and he was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Burket is currently being held at the Queen Anne’s County Detention Center without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
