First responders were called to the scene of a detached garage at 3005 Friends Road at 2 p.m. for reports of a structure fire. However, authorities later determined there was no fire.

Lt. Erick Jones, of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, told Patch that first responders did find a man suffering from critical injuries caused by an explosion.

The man, who was not identified, was flown to a hospital via helicopter.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, but officials say there is no further threat to the community.

A joint investigation is being carried out by the Anne Arundel County fire and police departments.
