New Pilates, Fitness Studio Heading To Annapolis (patch.com) — Annapolis residents can look forward to a new FS8 studio bringing a mix of Pilates, yoga, and toning classes to Jennifer Road as soon as this fall. The location will be the brand’s second in the county, following Severna Park, and offers locals another nearby option for full-body workouts and class bookings.    

2. MD Native Picked 5th Overall In 2026 PWHL Draft (patch.com) — Annapolis native Lacey Eden has been drafted fifth overall into the Professional Women’s Hockey League after a standout college career with four NCAA titles. Her success highlights local roots while she heads to Las Vegas to play under fellow Marylander and new head coach Kim Weiss.    

3. Veteran-led nonprofit helps military families find support, community after service (wmar2news.com) — From Annapolis, Marine veterans are running Warrior Events, an all-volunteer nonprofit that helps fellow service members and their families reconnect through dinners, outings, and support activities. Founded by Vietnam veteran Robert Saunders Jr., the group has aided recovering patients at Walter Reed, delivered thousands of meals during the pandemic, and continues building community for veterans who often feel isolated after service.    

4. Maryland to secure rights to Preakness intellectual property (wmar2news.com) — Maryland leaders in Annapolis are spending $85 million to secure the intellectual property rights to the Preakness Stakes and Black-Eyed Susan, keeping control from Churchill Downs. By using revenue bonds instead of the General Fund, officials say the move will protect a signature state event, strengthen the horse racing industry, and potentially save money on future licensing costs.
