AACPS Faces Federal Scrutiny Over Gender Identity Policy: Report

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — The Anne Arundel County Public Schools was threatened Monday with possible legal action or a loss of federal funding over its gender identity policies.

Both the U.S. Education and Justice departments found that the school district violated federal student privacy laws by withholding one student's gender identity from their parents.

U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said in a statement that it was "unconscionable that any school district would hide the most sensitive information about children in their care from their own parents."

"This is not only an affront to basic moral principles, but also to parents' rights under federal law," she said.

The announcement marks just the latest school district that has come under fire by the Trump administration.
