ANNAPOLIS, MD — Authorities on Thursday identified the woman killed after a single-family home collapsed in the Cape St. Claire area of Annapolis following an explosion.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department said Linda Synowczynski, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene after going into cardiac arrest.

Synowczynski had been on the driveway moments before the incident unfolded and was pulled from under debris by neighbors.

The department has not yet officially identified the man found inside the home who was hospitalized at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The individual remains in critical condition.

Two other individuals — a neighbor and a police officer — suffered injuries at the scene. The AACFD said the neighbor was treated for exhaustion and the police officer was hospitalized for a non-life-threatening injury.

What Happened?

Investigators have not yet confirmed a cause for the Wednesday incident at the 1100 block of Green Holly Drive.

The latest findings indicate that an explosion occurred, causing the second floor to collapse onto the first floor of the home.

Authorities said a gas company vendor had been at the home an hour before the collapse, refilling a propane tank. However, officials have not confirmed whether the two incidents are related.

Larry Schultz, the assistant fire chief of the AACFD, previously described the cause of the collapse as "some type of explosion."

No fire was reported at the scene, which had a debris field stretching over half a block.

Neighbors who were previously displaced during the initial investigation have been allowed to return to their homes.

Authorities said that road closures do remain in place on Green Holly Drive between Ramblewood and Rolling View drives until further notice.
