Man Dies After Suffering Serious Injuries In Annapolis House Explosion (patch.com) β Annapolis residents are mourning after 75-year-old Stanley Synowczynski died from injuries suffered in the Aug. 19 house explosion on Green Holly Drive, which had already claimed his wife Linda's life. Anne Arundel County fire officials say the blast was accidental, caused by a severed propane line ignited by a metal grinder, and describe a massive response involving more than 50 firefighters and heroic efforts from nearby neighbors.

Applications Open for 2027 Chesapeake Gateways Grants (nps.gov) β Annapolis-based National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways is now accepting applications for its 2027 grants, which support outdoor recreation and heritage tourism projects across the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Local organizations can apply through early November for funding that backs tourism, community events, and Chesapeake-focused cultural and nature experiences.

Dog Days Are Over: End-of-Summer Guided Hike with Scenic Rivers & Paws and Possibilities (severnaparkvoice.com) β Dog owners can join a free, end-of-summer guided hike this evening at Bacon Ridge Natural Area's Hawkins Road trailhead in Annapolis, with expert trainers from Paws and Possibilities. Space is limited to 12 dogs, and organizers share detailed guidance on leashes, training tools, heat safety, and what to bring so both people and pups can enjoy the protected forest trails.

James Roche, Embattled Air Force Secretary, Dies at 86 (nytimes.com) β A former U.S. Air Force secretary and longtime defense executive has died at age 86 at his home in Annapolis, marking the passing of a prominent national security figure with local ties. He previously served 23 years in the Navy and later led the Air Force during major scandals that ended his Pentagon career.
