ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 6, 2026) - Despite rainy weather, AAA Club Alliance associates proudly participated in the 2026 Move With MADD Maryland walk at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis this weekend, demonstrating their commitment to safer roads and support for victims and survivors of impaired driving.
Led by team captain Ragina Ali, Public and Government Affairs Manager for AAA Club Alliance, the AAA team, including AAA Maryland Associates, District Director Maria York and friends of AAA, exceeded its fundraising goal by raising nearly $1,700 for MADD's advocacy, prevention, and victim-services programs. Team members walked alongside MADD CEO Stacey Stewart, survivors' families, and community advocates, demonstrating a shared commitment to ending impaired driving and improving roadway safety.
"AAA is a valued partner in advancing our shared commitment to safer roads, and I was proud to walk alongside the AAA Club Alliance team, victims, survivors, and advocates at Move with MADD Maryland this weekend," said Stacey D. Stewart, MADD CEO. "Their continued partnership and generosity demonstrate the impact we can make together as we work to end impaired driving and support those affected by it."
The event also served as a meaningful opportunity to honor those whose lives were tragically cut short by impaired drivers. For Ali, the walk was a personal tribute to colleagues and friends, Baltimore Police Sergeant John Platt and Officer Kevin McCarthy, who were killed, while on-duty by a drunk driver in Northeast Baltimore in 2000, as well as Zackary Perrone, a member of the Baltimore chapter of the Latin American Motorcycle Association who was killed by an impaired driver in Harford County in 2022.
"This walk is about honoring the memories of those whose lives were taken far too soon and standing with the families and survivors affected by impaired driving," said Ragina Ali, Public and Government Affairs Manager at AAA Club Alliance.
Every day, approximately 32 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that's one person every 44 minutes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
In 2024, 11,904 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths, accounting for nearly a third of the nation's traffic fatalities. AAA remains committed to partnering with organizations like MADD to advance traffic safety, support victims and survivors, and encourage motorists to make the lifesaving choice to drive sober every time.
"At AAA, traffic safety is at the heart of what we do, and events like Move With MADD Maryland give us an opportunity to turn that commitment into action," said Ali. "We're proud to support MADD's lifesaving work to prevent impaired driving, support victims and survivors, and make our roads safer for everyone."
