ANNAPOLIS, MD — A 63-year-old Annapolis man was indicted Monday in connection with a federal voter fraud case in New Mexico.
A release issued by the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Mexico identified the man as Robert Glenn Johnson, who is accused of fraudulently filing a voter registration application in the state.
Court documents state Johnson had filed the application with the Bernalillo County Clerk's Office Bureau of Elections in Albuquerque.
The filing, which was submitted "on or about" Sept. 18, noted that Johnson was a New Mexico resident.
It wasn't until Oct. 26 that the Annapolis man was arrested in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and appeared in court.
"New Mexico's elections are for New Mexico voters, and we intend to keep it that way," First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison said in a statement.
"Residency isn't a matter of convenience when it comes to voting. We are aggressively investigating election fraud and prosecuting those who seek to undermine the integrity of our elections."
Johnson was released on bond pending further proceedings.
