Anna Dunning, 84, of Sherwood Forest

Ann Dunning, 84, of Sherwood Forest, died Friday, April 17, 2015 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Baltimore to the late James and Alice Barnhart, Ann graduated from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA and received her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania. A resident of College Park, MD, Ann summered in Sherwood Forest beginning in 1969 until making it her permanent residence in 1984.

Formerly the head of physical therapy for Prince George’s County Hospital in Cheverly, Ann spent the majority of her career as a physical therapist in the Prince George’s County School System retiring after 30 years of service. Following her retirement she worked in various therapy offices and volunteered at the Joint Camp at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Ann was awarded the Sherwood Forest Severn River Trophy for her service to community and won the Sherwood Forest Golf Championship. She was a member of the University of Maryland Women’s Golf Association, an avid tennis player and golfer and enjoyed playing bridge, spending time with friends and most of all her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Beverly Dunning in 2013 after 58 years of marriage. Ann is survived by her daughters; Diane McClatchy and husband David, Jr. of Annapolis, MD and Leslie Baird and husband Dan of Sherwood Forest. A sister; Alice “Beth” Andersen of Portland, OR and 6 grandchildren; Mimi and Bo McClatchy, Danny, Katie, Maggie and Chase Baird.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 25, 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Sherwood Forest Endowment Fund, 134 Sherwood Forest Road, Sherwood Forest, MD 21405 or Special Olympics of Maryland.
