Annapolis Crime: Crab Meat Taken from Eastport Restaurant

The Annapolis Police Department reported 101 calls for service and 11 arrests in the past 24 hours.

The information below is a roundup of recent incidents provided by the police department.

Crab Meat Taken from Eastport Restaurant—City police arrested an Annapolis man after police say he took crab meat from the kitchen of an Eastport restaurant.

Rodney Keith Wilson, 51, of President Street in Annapolis, was charged with theft under $100, according to police.

Police said an officer responded to around 9 p.m. Thursday  after getting a report that a suspicious person walked into the kitchen of the restaurant. The officer talked to the restaurant manager, who said the person came in through the back door.

The manager told police several employees pointed out the person, noting that he didn’t belong there. According to the police report, when approached by employees, the man said he was looking for , also in Eastport, and then left.

Police said nothing was taken but the manager was told by multiple employees that they saw the same man several weeks ago. Employees said in first incident, the man came in through the back door and was seen trying to take 4 pounds of crab meat, according to the police report. Police said in that incident, the man again said he was looking for the Chart House when he was confronted by employees. He then ran away, police said.

The manager told police that it was the same person, wearing the same clothes, in both incidents.

According to the police report, officers searched the area and found someone matching the description near the area of Washington Street and Severn Avenue.

Officers approached the man, who ran away and threw a total of five one-pound cans of Prima Star lump crab meat into an adjacent yard, according to the police report.

Police detained the man and the manager of Boatyard Bar and Grill later identified him as the same one at the restaurant, but said the crab meat did not belong to the restaurant. Police checked with other restaurants in the area and determined that the crab meat belonged to  restaurant, located nearby on Sixth Street.

Employees there told police they had a total of eight cans of crab meat sitting out. Employees told police the man walked in, asked about the Chart House restaurant and then left after stealing the crab meat.

According to the police report, the five cans of stolen crab meat were worth about $83 total.

Man Arrested in Connection with Nov. 18 Incident—

City police arrested a 42-year-old Annapolis man on a warrant in where police said he tried to rob a 92-year-old man in the unit block of W. Washington St. Police said the victim suffered injuries during the incident.

Renardo Green was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, police said.

Green was being held on $500,000 bond, according to Friday’s daily incident report from the Annapolis Police Department.

Attempted Burglary on Taylor Avenue—Police said someone damaged the lock and was able to open the front door of a business in the 600 block of Taylor Ave. The person was able to get in through a second locked door. The incident occurred sometime between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to police.
