Annapolis Crime: iPhone App Helps Police Find Stolen Car

iPhone App Helps Recover Stolen Car—Annapolis Police said an iPhone application helped an Annapolis woman locate her stolen Honda Civic. According to police, the woman, 26, said she parked her car in front of the Exxon gas station in the 1000 block of Forest Drive around 10:25 p.m. Friday night. The car was reportedly left running and another person, a 23-year-old man, was inside the car. He went inside the store and when he came back outside, the car was no longer there, according to police. The woman told police several of her things were inside the car, including her iPhone.

No one at the gas station saw who got into the car or where it went, police said. Around 1 a.m. Saturday, the woman’s mother called police to tell them that she had accessed an app on her daughter’s iPhone that would help find the phone. That app tracked the phone to the area of Janwall and Bricin streets, according to police. Police said several officers went to the area and found the car in the 200 block of Janwall Street. Police reported that all of the victim’s things were still in the car except for the car keys.

Police called the victim to let her know the car was found but the keys were missing. Her wallet, money and iPhone were all returned.

Police said there is no suspect at this time. There could be surveillance video from the gas station of the incident but a review has not been completed at this time.

Saws Taken from Garage—Police said someone went inside an unlocked garage and took two saws. The incident occurred between 5 p.m. Nov. 17 and 7 a.m. Nov. 25 in the unit block of Chesapeake Avenue, according to police.

Purse Stolen from Car on Bay Ridge Avenue—Police said someone took a purse from the driver's seat of a car that was parked in the 700 block of Bay Ridge Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. Friday. The owner of the car was unloading things from the vehicle at the time and all the doors were open, according to police. The victim reportedly saw the theft and chased after the suspect, who was last seen turning left onto Burnside Street from Bay Ridge Avenue, according to police.

Hats Stolen from Main Street Store—More than $1,500 worth of hats were taken from on Main Street just before 8 p.m. Saturday, city police said. According to police, the suspect appeared to be browsing when he left the store carrying many hats. He was last seen walking on Main Street in the direction of Church Circle.

Burglary on Lincoln Drive—Police said someone smashed open the front door of a building in the 1900 block of Lincoln Drive. The incident occurred some time between 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 8:45 a.m. Sunday, according to police. It is unclear whether or not anything was taken in the incident.

iPod, GPS Reported Stolen from Car on Boucher Avenue—An iPod, a GPS and a pair of sunglasses were reported stolen from a car in the 900 block of Boucher Avenue. Police said the incident occurred between 7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday. According to police, there was no sign of forced entry.

Purse Taken from Car on West Street—Police said someone used a rock to smash the passenger side window of a car and then took a purse from underneath the front passenger seat. The incident occurred between 2 a.m. and noon Sunday in the 1800 block of West Street, according to police.

Clothing, Car Battery Charger Stolen from Unlocked Car—Police said someone took a down jacket, sunglasses, tennis shoes and a car battery charger from an unlocked car in the 900 block of Boucher Avenue this weekend. The incident occurred between 5 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday, according to police.
