Annapolis Crime: Police Seize Marijuana

The (APD) reports 90 calls for service and 17 arrests in the last 24 hours. The information below is a roundup of recent incidents supplied by the APD.

City police arrested a 22-year-old Annapolis man and charged him with drug possession and distribution after reportedly finding about 6.2 ounces of marijuana in his vehicle.

Leeron Shaw was charged with controlled dangerous substance (CDS) possession-marijuana and CDS possession with intent to distribute, according to online court records.

According to police, the incident occurred outside a home in the unit block of Parole Street around 10:30 a.m. Monday. Police said officers were at the home to serve an outstanding bench warrant and saw a man sitting in a car. Police said another person was standing at the front passenger door of the car. Police reported noticing the smell of "burnt marijuana."

The man in the driver seat reportedly had a brown, burning cigar in his hand and when officers approached the area they found a clear plastic bag filled with what was determined to be marijuana.

Both people were arrested. However, according to the police report, the second person told police he did not know about the marijuana.

“There was not enough probable cause to further detain and or charge the second subject,” according to the police report, and he was released without charges.

Police said Shaw was released by the District Court Commissioner.
