Annapolis Crime: Police Say Woman Charged with Theft Used Baby Stroller to Hide Items

Woman Arrested in Connection with Theft from Main Street Store—City police said an Annapolis woman reportedly went to a Main Street store with eight boys and stole three sweatshirts by stuffing them into a baby stroller on Saturday afternoon. According to police, the incident occurred at the around 4:34 p.m.

Police said three hoodie sweatshirts, worth about $60 in total, were taken from the store. Deborah Anne Brown, 41, was charged on a criminal citation with theft of less than $1,000 and released, according to police.

The clerk at the store told police that a woman was pushing a baby stroller with eight boys ranging in age from 8 to 12. The boys reportedly went inside the store, surrounded the counter and one of them went behind the counter to provide a distraction. According to the police report, the woman stayed outside of the store where there were racks of clothing, including sweatshirts, on display.

The clerk who reported the incident to police arrived later and found three missing sweatshirts, according to the report. The clerks reportedly watched surveillance video of the incident and called police. The clerk on duty at the time of the incident provided a written statement to police, who said the surveillance video shows a woman taking sweatshirts and hiding them inside the stroller. Reportedly, after the woman took the sweatshirts, she can be seen in the video motioning to the boys to leave the store.

The clerk who arrived later told police he saw the same woman and eight boys walking up Main Street in the direction of Church Circle on his way to the store. He told police that, at the time, he didn’t know about the theft but heard the woman telling the boys which direction to go.

Police found the woman on West Street around 4 p.m. Tuesday, pushing a stroller. Officers found that instead of a baby in the stroller, there were multiple products from CVS. Police discovered that those items had not been paid for, according to the report.
