National Drug Take Back Initiative

The National Drug Take Back Initiative will be held in the lobby of the Annapolis Police Department on Saturday, September 27th from 10am to 2pm. It is completely anonymous, no identification is requested of people disposing of prescription medications, and people are therefore encouraged to remove identifying labels from containers.

Liquid medications should be in a sealed container to prevent leakages (ziplock bag). Other medications (pills, tablets, etc.) will be disposed of directly into the disposal box, and their original containers can be put in a recycling bin. We are NOT accepting needles or injectibles. Any other type of medication is accepted (controlled, non-controlled, or over the counter).

Here’s a link to the DEA’s web page that talks about this ongoing collaborative effort between the DEA and state and local law enforcement agencies to prevent prescription drug abuse: http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/

The above page will also direct people to a page to find drop off locations across the country once they are established. For anyone not able to make it to our event, all four Anne Arundel County Police stations have permanent drop boxes, and citizens should call them to confirm operating hours.
