Annapolis Discoveries To Be First Mall Library In Central MD

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A branch of the Anne Arundel County Public Library will open this spring at Westfield Annapolis while the Annapolis Library is rebuilt in 2018 and 2019, officials said. Called Discoveries: The Library at the Mall, the new branch is slated to open on April 30.

Customers will be able to enjoy new and classic books for kids, teens and adults; comfortable seating; a Discovery Dock children’s area; WiFi; self checkout capabilities; public computers; DVDs; a 3D printer and an area for customers to pick up materials placed on hold. Library staff will also offer weekly early literacy programs and educational events for kids and teens on a regular basis. Mall-goers will be able to sign up for library cards and discover all the services a card provides, including free streaming movies, online tutoring, eBooks, job resources and more.

The first mall library in Central Maryland, the partnership will provide services to area residents and mall customers. The branch is made possible through the support of the Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation and Westfield Annapolis.

“This new library will provide education, enrichment and inspiration to county residents and mall customers in a new way,” said Library CEO Skip Auld in a news release. “We are grateful to partner with Westfield Annapolis in providing this important community resource.”

Discoveries: The Library at the Mall will be located in a 3,000 square-foot storefront in the west wing of the mall across from Under Armour and near Crate and Barrel. The branch is expected to operate Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We are thrilled to have Anne Arundel County Library open here at Westfield Annapolis,” said Matt Barry, district general manager, Westfield Annapolis, in the release. “This new location will provide an additional amenity to our customers.”
