Annapolis July 4th Fireworks, Parade and More: 2018 Guide

Here's your guide to Fourth of July fireworks and parades in Anne Arundel County. Extra police will be on hand at the Annapolis events.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — As a way to acknowledge the deadly attack on the Capital Gazette office last week that left five employees dead, the city had the newspaper's staff lead today's Fourth of July parade.

The Annapolis Police Department has beefed up security with larger than normal crowd expected in the city for the parade and fireworks in the wake of last week's shootings. Officials said 56 additional officers would be patrol for the parade, which began at 6:30 p.m. and for the fireworks, which start at 9:15 p.m.

“We think that this particular Fourth of July is going to be different because it’s going to take a healing role for the community,” deputy chief Kevin Simmons, director of the Office of Emergency Management, told the Capital Gazette. “There will be a bunch more people coming out to support Annapolis. We think that folks want something that’s uplifting after the tragedy over at Bestgate Road.”
