ANNAPOLIS, MD — The fishing has been hot for guests at the Lower Niagara River, including 19-year-old George Shively of Annapolis. The Niagara River is a Great Lakes connecting channel and an international border between the United States (New York) and Canada (Ontario). The Lower Niagara River is approximately 14 miles in length, and fishing opportunities exist from the Whirlpool north to the mouth of the river at Lake Ontario.

According to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, fishing along the Lower Niagara River has been hopping for walleye and bass in particular. Shively was fishing with Capt. Joe Marra of Lewiston recently using a minnow and caught a 6.5 pound smallmouth bass, The Buffalo News reported.
