Annapolis Still Has Christmas Tree, But Pandemic Changes Lighting

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — As Thanksgiving approaches, some Anne Arundel County Residents already have their eyes set on Christmas. This year's holiday season will look a little different, however.

Anne Arundel usually has a Christmas tree lighting in Glen Burnie, but the county hasn't made mention of one in its events calendar. Annapolis also canceled its tree lighting, but the city still plans to continue part of the tradition.

Workers delivered a 20-foot-tall tree on Friday. They will finish decorating the Christmas icon by Tuesday. Locals passing City Dock can ejoy it for the rest of the season.

"Over the next 2 weeks downtown Annapolis will be transformed into a holiday winter wonderland, with the largest amount of holiday decorations anyone has ever seen in Annapolis," said Erik Evans, executive director of the Downtown Annapolis Partnership.

Evans added that shops are still open and that Annapolis still has plenty of holiday events scheduled. Residents who prefer to stay home should support small businesses by shopping online, Evans encouraged. Local presents and gift cards on this website.
