Annapolis Veterans Day Celebration Will Include Parade, Ceremonies Around City

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Annapolis planned a slate of Veterans Day events to honor servicemembers on the Thursday, Nov. 11 holiday.

A short parade around Memorial Circle starts at 11 a.m. An hour-long ceremony at City Dock will follow. "Jolly Rogers," the silent drill team from the U.S. Naval Academy, will perform. Organizers also invited Gov. Larry Hogan, Mayor Gavin Buckley and the public.

A lunch and resource fair will begin immediately after at the Fleet Reserve Club located at 100 Compromise Street. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Vince Patton, the eighth master chief petty officer of the U.S. Coast Guard.

American Legion Cook-Pinkney Post 141 will also host its own reflections. The day will kick off with an 11 a.m. ceremony at the Maryland World War II Memorial situated at 1920 Governor Ritchie Highway.

Attendees will then return to the American Legion at 1707 Forest Drive for a lunch from noon to 1:30 p.m. A veterans standdown runs from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., and a social event will last from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

City government offices will be closed on Thursday, and Annapolis Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule. Trash, recycling and yard waste collection not be affected. The Pip Moyer Recreation Center will be open for its normal hours, but the Stanton Community Center will be closed.
