Mayor Gavin Buckley: “We Grieve the Loss of Deontrae Matthews”

“The City of Annapolis grieves the loss of another life with the death of Deontre Matthews, 34, who was stabbed early Monday and later succumbed to his injuries. We mourn this loss alongside his family.

“We are working with the family to host a vigil at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 12 at Chambers Park to honor Mr. Matthews. The public will be invited to attend this event to spread the love and support his family at this difficult time.

“Mr. Matthews did not deserve to have his life ended in this way. He was a man in the prime of his life and he was loved.

“Annapolis Police detectives are working the case and have informed me that they are receiving cooperation and support from the community.

“We implore our residents to work to solve problems peaceably.”
