ANNAPOLIS, MD — Super Bowl Sunday is an unofficial U.S. holiday. Bars and restaurants are usually packed, but this year will be different because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Anne Arundel's eateries are still aiming for a big day, however. Business leaders hope that deals and newly-expanded capacities will encourage residents to support the county's staples.

Patch recently partnered with several local organizations to bring you their latest news. This guest contribution comes from the Downtown Annapolis Partnership. Here's what Executive Director Erik Evans wrote about the Super Bowl:

"The Super Bowl has become a tradition in many family’s homes. Even those that typically don’t watch football tune in for the game, halftime show, and commercials. Another important aspect of the game is the food and comradery of watching the game with family and friends.

It would be an understatement to say this football season has felt different due to COVID. The preseason games were canceled, stadiums have been mostly empty, and tailgate parties are gone.

The one thing that will remain true is people will tune in to the game at 6:30 pm on Sunday and enjoy dinner and snacks in front of the TV with their household. Instead of discussing the game and commercials the following day at the office, these discussions will happen faster and in real-time with friends and family using social media, chat services, texts, and phone calls.

With both the Governor and the County Executive allowing bars and restaurants to return to normal late-night hours this week and increasing capacity at restaurants to 50% you can now watch the game at your favorite pub or sports bar without having to leave before the game ends.
A few bars are advertising you can watch the big game on site. They will be maintaining capacity and social distancing restrictions so plan to arrive early or check to see if they take reservations to make sure you get a table with a view of the game.

Stan and Joe’s Saloon is advertising discounts on food and drinks while you watch the big game. Federal House Bar and Grille is advertising it has the game available indoor and outdoor in heated tents. Reservations are being accepted for Federal House for the game to ensure social distancing for your group.

For most that choose to be a part of a Super Bowl Party this year, it will mean having a party at home with members of your household. To keep the food element fun and avoid spending your day in the kitchen below are some ideas for carryout and delivery for your home Super bowl party.
For a south of the border theme Caliente Grill has taco trays, nacho kits, family-sized guacamole, fajita platters, sangria, and margaritas to go.

For a seafood dinner Buddy’s Crab and Ribs has shrimp, crawfish, crab legs, and mussels by the pound. They also have crabs, ribs, side dishes, and cocktail kits to go.

Galway Bay has family-sized meal platters to go that include fish and chips, bangers and mash, and shepherd’s pie mac and cheese. They also have a Guinness Chocolate Cake and growlers to go.

There are several restaurant choices with a wide range of specialty pizzas. Here is your opportunity to get Harry Browne’s shipmate pizza with Carolina with gold pulled pork, pineapple, bacon, pepper jack cheese and cheddar. Luna Blu Ristorante’s has a Carne pizza with house-made marinara, mozzarella, pepperoni, sweet Italian sausage, and prosciutto, or try Carpaccio Tuscan Kitchen’s Bianca Neve pizza with a white parmesan crust, mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan, broccoli, and tomatoes.

For those still undecided Metropolitan Kitchen has 6 different family-sized meals to pick from including short ribs, braised lamb sliders, and grilled salmon. They also have a large selection of cocktails to go.

If cooking at home is your plan for Sunday and you just need to stock up on drinks, Mills Wine & Spirits has free local delivery with a $50 minimum purchase.

Additional good news is these carry-out specials are good any day of the week, so pick one location to order dinner from for the game this weekend and then try another local restaurant to order carry-out from next weekend for an Annapolis Style Valentine’s Day Weekend with the family.
