Anne Arundel School Calendar 2019-20: Dates To Know, Holidays

When's the first day of school and holidays for Anne Arundel County schools? Plus, other must-know dates for students, parents and teachers.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The first day of school for some Anne Arundel County students is Sept. 3, and whether you and the kids are looking forward to the new school year or are dreading the end of summer vacation, you need to mark the date on your calendar. Anne Arundel County Public Schools has released its 2019-2020 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

The district has a staggered start with schools open for grades 1-5 and grades 6 and 9 on Tuesday, Sept. 3. On Sept. 4, all schools are open for students in grades 1-12. Kindergarten students also have a staggered start Sept. 5, 6 and 9.

This calendar has two days built in at the end of the school year for emergency closings. If more than two additional makeup days are needed, Tuesday, March 10, may be used as a makeup day.

September

  • 9/2: Labor Day — All Schools & Central Offices closed.
  • 9/3: Schools open for grades 1–5 and grades 6 and 9 only.
  • 9/3 and 9/4: Conferences for Kindergarten and Full-day Pre-K students.
  • 9/3,9/4, 9/5: Conferences for Half-day Pre-K & ECI students.
  • 9/4: Schools open for students in grades 1 through 12.
  • 9/5, 9/6, 9/9: Staggered entrance for kindergarten and full-day prekindergarten students.
  • 9/6: First day of school for ECI students.
  • 9/6, 9/9 and 9/10: Staggered entrance for Half-day Prekindergarten students.
  • 9/10: First day for all Kindergarten and Full-day Prekindergarten students.
  • 9/11: First day for all Half-day Prekindergarten students.
  • 9/17: Evening High School begins
  • 9/30: Rosh Hashanah — All Schools & Central Offices closed.

October

  • 10/8: Professional Development. Two-hour early dismissal for all students. Schools closed for p.m. Prekindergarten and ECI students.
  • 10/9: Yom Kippur — All Schools & Central Offices closed.
  • 10/15: Schools closed for students. Parent/Teacher conference for elementary, middle, and high schools.
  • 10/16: Schools closed for elementary and middle school students for Parent/Teacher conferences. Schools open for all high school students.

November

  • 11/7, 11/8: End of first marking period. Two-hour early dismissal for all students. Schools closed for p.m. Prekindergarten and ECI.
  • 11/27–29 Thanksgiving Holiday — All Schools & Central Offices Closed.

December

  • 12/5: Professional Development. Two-hour early dismissal for all students. Schools closed for p.m. Prekindergarten and ECI students.
  • 12/23–1/1 Christmas/Winter Break—All schools closed December 23 through January 1 for students, teachers, and school-based Unit IV employees. School Offices & Central Offices closed December 24, 25, 31, and January 1.

January

  • 1/1: All Schools & Central Offices closed.
  • 1/2: Schools open for teachers and students.
  • 1/20: Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Commemoration —All Schools & Central Offices closed.
  • 1/28, 1/29 End of second marking period. Two-hour early dismissal for all students, teacher
  • workdays. Schools closed for p.m. Prekindergarten and ECI students.
  • 1/30: Schools closed for students. Professional Development day/Workday for elementary and middle school; workday for high school.

February

  • 2/5: Prekindergarten Application period begins.
  • 2/11: Evening High School Begins (second semester)
  • 2/12: Professional Development. Two-hour early dismissal for all students. Schools closed for p.m. Prekindergarten and ECI students.
  • 2/17: Presidents Day —All Schools & Central Offices closed.March9 Interims to be sent home by this date.

March

  • 3/10: Schools closed for students. Parent/Teacher conferences for elementary, middle, and high schools.
  • 3/24: Professional Development. Two-hour early dismissal for all students. Schools closed for p.m. Prekindergarten and ECI students.
  • 3/25: SAT Administration (Grade 11 only). Delayed arrival for most students in grades 9, 10, and 12.

April

  • 4/1: Registration for Kindergarten begins.
  • 4/7, 4/8: End of third marking period. Two-hour early dismissal for all students. Schools closed for p.m. Prekindergarten and ECI.
  • 4/9–13: Easter/Spring Break — All Schools & Central Offices closed.14 Beginning of fourth marking period.23 Report Card distribution for all students.
  • 4/28: Primary Elections — All Schools & Central Offices closed.

May

  • 5/18, 5/19: Spring Conferences for Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, and ECI. Schools closed for those students.
  • 5/21: Last day for graduating seniors.
  • 5/24: Eid al-Fitr — Schools will operate on a normal schedule.
  • 5/25: Memorial Day — All Schools & Central Offices closed.

June

  • 6/12: Last day for half-day Prekindergarten and ECI students.
  • 6/15, 6/16: Two-hour early dismissal for all students. Schools closed for p.m. Prekindergarten and ECI.
  • 6/16: Last day for students.
  • 6/17: Last day for teachers.
July
  • 7/3: Independence Day observed — All Schools & Central Offices closed.
  • 7/7: Summer School begins.
  • 7/31: Eid al-Adha— Schools & Central Offices open.
