Armed Suspect Hit By Patrol Car As He Fled Cops

The Churchton man was treated and released from the hospital. He faces 14 criminal charges for drugs and weapons.

A Churchton man carrying a loaded handgun was hit by a patrol car as he fled Annapolis Police, and treated at a local hospital, authorities say.

Officers were called to the 700 block of Newtowne Drive Tuesday afternoon on a report that two men wearing masks and dark clothing threatened someone with handguns. Police found Marlin Simms, 28, of Churchton reportedly wearing a black facemask and dark clothing.

As officers approached Simms he ran away, holding onto a bulge in his waistband. An officer in a vehicle struck Simms as he ran across a parking lot.

Simms continued to run, trying to enter a cab, but officers caught up to him. During the arrest Simms, started to have convulsions and was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Authorities say Simms was found with a loaded handgun, marijuana and cocaine in his pockets.

He was charged with 14 criminal counts, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Simms is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on $300,000 bond.
