Artists Debut Work At Maryland Hall For The Creative Arts

Two exhibits on display at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts feature a Korean botanist and artists of Korean heritage.

ANNAPOLIS, MD -- Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts has debuted two new exhibits that will remain up for viewing through August. The Han Mee Artist Association group exhibition features artwork by artists with a Korean heritage. The exhibit is called The Shape of My Heart and can found on the second floor in the Chaney Gallery.

Eunmee Chung, exhibition coordinator, explained the exhibit celebrates what the artists reveal about themselves to the world.

"Our lives reveal something about our being. The musician reveals the beautiful melody of the universe. Poets reveal various forms of life. Flowers make their own beauty. Heaven is the broadness of heaven and earth. The mountain reveals itself high. What does our life reveal? Do I reveal the morality and character of human-being? Do you reveal love, warmth, goodness, sunshine and hope? I am not showing any stubbornness, arrogance, sadness, greed," Chung stated.

The second exhibit called The Botanical Portrait: A Personal Look Into The Life of a Plant by Hye Woo Shin can be found on the second floor in the Martino Gallery. Originally from Korea, Shin is a botanist and botanical illustration artist. She is currently studying orchids at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater. Shin’s traditional method of pen ink drawing and watercolors have earned her exhibition space at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea, the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation at Carnegie Mellon University, the Royal Horticultural Society London Botanical Art Show and the Royal Botanical Garden, Edinburgh, Scotland. This is Shin's first solo show in the United States.
