ARNOLD, MD —Police said a man blocked an Arnold road on Saturday and stabbed a passerby who confronted him. Officers reported tasing and hitting the armed and uncooperative suspect with a police car. Investigators still don't know what the suspect's motive was.

A write-up noted that the encounter started around 3:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Campus Green Drive. A woman was driving down the street with her adult son when the suspect refused to get out of the way, a press release added.

Police informed that the suspect then threw himself into the stopped car, damaging its mirror. The man then yelled that the driver hit him with her car, an incident report advised.

Officers alleged that the son got out of the car and was stabbed by the suspect. The woman's husband came outside to find the son bleeding, and the suspect stabbed the victim again, police explained.

The report mentioned that the husband then went inside to grab a legally-owned gun, but the suspect walked away down Jones Station Road. The husband did not fire any shots, officers wrote.

Police shared that they found the man on College Parkway near Peninsula Farm Road with what looked like a blood-stained shirt and a 6-inch knife in a sheath on his hip. Officers stated that they tased him after he refused to get on the ground when ordered.

The suspect fell down, immediately got up and pulled the taser prongs out of his body, the report continued. Police accused the man of pulling his knife and threatening authorities while still being disobedient.

The release clarified that an approaching officer then struck the suspect with his car, knocking him to the ground and dislodging his knife. Police indicated that they swooped in and tried to arrest the man, but he still resisted. Officers disclosed that they tased the suspect a second time, and he eventually complied, leading to his arrest.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department identified the accused man as 30-year-old Theodore James Buffington, who has no fixed address. Doctors are treating him at an unnamed trauma center, the report concluded.
