Attempted Murder Arrest Made, Suspect Barricades Himself In Annapolis: Police

A shooting suspect was charged with attempted murder in Annapolis, police said. The accused man barricaded himself during a search warrant.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A man was arrested and charged with attempted murder Wednesday in Annapolis, city police announced. Officers said they took the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Demonte Eric Smith, into custody after a barricade while authorities executed a search warrant.

Police said they heard reports of shots fired last Thursday around 7:23 p.m. in the 1100 block of Madison Street.

Officers said they found and collected evidence consistent with shots being fired at the scene.

Authorities said gunfire struck one building, but nobody was hurt. Detectives started investigating.

The Annapolis Police Department said it eventually identified Smith as the suspect and secured an arrest warrant for attempted murder among other charges.

Officers said they executed a search and seizure warrant in the 100 block of Obery Court around 4:53 a.m. on Wednesday.

Smith briefly barricaded himself inside the home, authorities said.

Police said they eventually took Smith into custody without further incident.

Officers said they took him to the Anne Arundel County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
