Weather Could Change Semester Break Dates: Anne Arundel Schools

Anne Arundel County Public Schools' officials warn that bad weather could change Jan. 31 semester break plans.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Anne Arundel County Public Schools parents had a reminder Monday that the semester break for students — scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 31 — could shift if winter weather forces schools to close on any of the last two days of the second marking period.

All quarterly assessments must be given by the end of the marking period and before the semester break. If inclement weather forces school closures on either Jan. 29 or 30 — the last “A” day and “B” day of the high school schedule — the semester break will be shifted forward, said Superintendent George Arlotto.

If weather forces a two-hour delay on either Jan. 29 or Jan. 30, all schools will open two hours late and close at their normal time to accommodate assessments.

Two snow days are built into the 2018-2019 calendar for weather closures. If a third day is needed, Tuesday, March 5 (currently a parent-teacher conference day), will be used as a makeup day.
Any additional snow days (including a third day if it occurs after March 5) would be made up the week of June 17-21.

That means that Friday, June 14, is not necessarily the last day of school for students, the district told parents and staff as they make summer plans.
