Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Maryland’s premier professional ballet company, is excited to reveal an exquisite array of performances for its upcoming 2016-2017 Season.
I am amazed that Ballet Theatre of Maryland’s (BTM’s) 2016-2017 Season is coming to an end with the incredibly diverse performance: Innovations 2017 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on April 21,22, and 23. This final step on our season’s journey brings passion, romance, classicism, and edgy contemporary themes together to create an unforgettable finale to a spectacular season.
Former BTM Principal Dancer, Meagan Helman Stukel, returns from Florida to create a brand new work, set to Vivaldi’s timeless music. Artistic Director, Dianna Cuatto adds two new works to the program with Odyssey and Nightfall. Odyssey is set to award winning movie composer, Kevin Keller’s luscious score from his album La Strada. It will take you on a journey beyond the infinite-inspired by Keller’s impressions of themes from the movies: 2001, A Space Odyssey, The Tree of Life, and Blade Runner. Keller is attending the premiere of Odyssey himself on Saturday the 24th of April. Nightfall is set to Borodin’s famous Nocturne and will take you on a romantic journey from sunset to midnight. The passionate Tango Dramatico and the Petipa’s classic Don Quixote Pas de Deux round out the program.
Of course, our journey wouldn’t be complete at Maryland Hall without our April 23 Season Grande Finale Party immediately following the matinee performance. Calder Taylor, who has been with BTM for 12 years, and his wife Alyssa Johnson Taylor are retiring from BTM to pursue new experiences out of state. Celebrate their artistry-both on and offstage-for in addition to bringing you beauty through the language of dance, they
have also enhanced this beauty with their work behind the scenes on BTM’s sets and costumes. We will honor them with a light buffet and introduce the 2017-2018 Season.
Finish the 2016-2017 journey with BTM’s dynamic, versatile dancers at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, and explore the depth and power of their performances through the mesmerizing language of classical dance in all its forms.
