Baltimore Pedestrian Killed By Truck In Severna Park
Police say a Baltimore man died when he stepped into the path of a tractor-trailer on Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.

SEVERNA PARK, MD — Police say a Baltimore man died when he stepped into the path of a tractor-trailer on Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. The fatal accident happened just before 3:30 a.m. Friday on southbound Governor Ritchie Highway (MD-2) north of Whites Road.
Jacob Lee Jahnigen, 33, of Baltimore, stepped into the travel portion of the highway and was struck by a southbound tractor trailer owned by ASL Transportation in Williamstown, New Jersey. Jahnigen was declared dead at the scene and his body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The driver of the tractor trailer — Stephan H. Tischler, 50, of Ventnor City, New Jersey — was not hurt, according to Anne Arundel County Police.
The preliminary cause of the crash was Jahnigen's failure to cross in a crosswalk and yield the right of way to vehicles, police said. Neither speed nor drug/alcohol use is suspected by the driver. Any charges would be after review by the state's attorney.
