Annapolis School Reopens Day After Heating Problem Forced Early Dismissal

An Annapolis school reopened a day after high classroom temperatures forced an early dismissal. Officials said the heating problem is fixed.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Annapolis' Bates Middle School reopened for in-person instruction Tuesday after a heating problem forced an early dismissal the day prior.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools announced Monday at 9:46 a.m. that Bates Middle would close at 10 a.m. that day "due to ongoing high temperatures in classrooms."

Patch asked AACPS to confirm the maximum temperature inside the building, but the school system's spokesperson has not yet responded to our question. We will update this story if we get a reply.

Students began real-time virtual classes Monday at noon.

AACPS announced Monday at 6:45 p.m. that "all systems are running properly" and that the school would reopen on time Tuesday for in-person classes.
