Bay Bridge Reopens After Tractor-Trailer Crash: MDTA

Officials said the closure has ended on the Bay Bridge on Thursday, Nov. 29, after a tractor-trailer crash.

QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY, MD — An overturned tractor-trailer shut down the westbound span of the Bay Bridge for more than four hours on Thursday, Nov. 29. The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. just before the westbound span of the Bay Bridge, according to state transportation officials.

At 5:05 p.m., the Maryland Transportation Authority reported that all lanes had reopened, and traffic was flowing freely in the area. The tractor-trailer had been uprighted and removed, officials said.

During the westbound span closure, backups stretched 9 miles for those traveling east and 5 miles for those headed west on US 50, the Maryland Transportation Authority reported before 5 p.m. Two-way operations were in place on eastbound US 50, meaning one lane was closed on the eastbound span so that westbound traffic could get by. Traffic had stacked up to the Severn River Bridge after 3:30 p.m., officials said.
