This Is The Best Ice Cream Stand In Maryland: Daily Meal

The food website The Daily Meal has picked the best ice cream stand in every state. Here's where to find Maryland's tastiest treat.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Ice cream is just a good idea any time, but summer's warmth makes it a perfect treat on a muggy Maryland day. If you are craving a rich, cool, creamy ice cream cone, the food website The Daily Meal has just released its picks of the Best Ice Cream Stand in Every State.

The best place for ice cream in Maryland is The Charmery, 801 W. 36th St. in Baltimore, says the website. Ice cream is sold by the scoop or the pint. Current offerings at the shop include salty caramel, Maryland mud, tell tale chocolate, and malty vanilla chip.

Here's how The Daily Meal folks describe the range of yummy ice cream purveyors nationwide: "There is no wrong season to eat ice cream, but it really hits the spot in summer. Everything's better with ice cream, especially if you add sprinkles, whipped cream and a cherry on top. ... Whether you’re in Texas or Maine, Alaska or Wisconsin, we have found ice creamstands, shops, creameries, dairy farms and more that are scooping up the creamiest, tastiest homemade ice cream — no matter the weather."

The Charmery — which also has locations in Towson at 6807 York Road and at the Union Collective, 1700 W. 41st St. in Baltimore — says it supports local farmers and producers whenever possible. The shops have an ever=changing sundae menu, seasonal ice cream flavors, sodas from scratch, hand-spun milkshakes, and floats with the root beer right from the tap.

"The Charmery is your chance to achieve happiness through ice cream," the website says.

The Charmery was founded by David and Laura Alima, both Maryland natives, who say the business is a homage to the city they live in and love.

Here's how the Daily Meal editors describe The Charmery: "A big favorite among students at Johns Hopkins University, Maryland's The Charmery has tons of flavors, including cool ones like baklava, black sesame, buttermilk and cornbread, and butternut squash and clove. They serve fun color-changing “magic” spoons and have menu items like Turtle Soup, made from melted chocolate ice cream."
