Best Maryland Bed And Breakfast, New List Says

The Daily Meal provided what it considers the best place to have a fabulous meal and a good night's sleep in Maryland.

EASTON, MD — This is not a guide for tourists who just want the continental breakfast at the hotel. This is for the people looking for an historic inn that just happens to serve bacon and eggs, but also features a restaurant with an acclaimed chef.

The Daily Meal, a popular food website, has provided what it considers the best bed-and-breakfasts in America for 2018, and one venue on Maryland's Eastern Shore made the list.

As a bonus you can make reservations for a traditional afternoon tea, held every Thursday, complete with finger sandwiches scones, bubbly drinks and more.

Inn at 202 Dover in Easton

"Built in 1874, the Inn at 202 Dover is a member of the Historic Hotels of America and was restored in 2005. A Victorian bed-and-breakfast with an international flavor, guests have the option of staying in the expansive France, Asia, England, or Africa suites or the Victorian en-suite bedroom. In addition to a wonderful breakfast, guests are also served a complimentary afternoon tea and can also opt for full-service spa packages right in the comfort of their room."

The inn's website describes the update Colonial Revival mansion as boasting four elegant suites and one luxury en suite bedroom, each themed and decorated accordingly. "Invoking the Victorian era, the suites provide guests with an international flavor in keeping with the Victorian concept. Guests may choose among France, Asia, England and Africa (Safari) suites or, the Victorian bedroom. Many guests have commented that the suites are larger than their apartments," the website says.

Also available is the Peacock Restaurant & Lounge with a Cordon Bleu-trained executive chef. The restaurant was recently featured in What's Up? Magazine for having an "attention to detail and pure elegance that makes you feel like royalty."

The restaurant serves traditional afternoon tea at 3 p.m. on Thursdays. In addition to brewed tea of your choice, three courses are served. Start with traditional finger sandwiches prepared with European butter and delicious fillings, followed by homemade scones served with crème fraîche and jam, and finish with a variety of mini pastries. Compliment your dessert with a glass of champagne or special dessert wine.

The Inn at 202 Dover received five stars from Expedia for the Chesapeake region, the other is the Ritz Carlton in Baltimore. And the inn was selected by American Express, Travel + Leisure and Food & Wine as a Best In America winner, along with a AAA Four Diamond rating.
