Betty Reyner Johnson passed away on July 22 in Annapolis, with her daughter Anna by her side. She was 89 years old. Betty was a gift to all who knew her, and a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife and friend who could light up the world with her smile. This past year she battled lung cancer with dignity and grace, reminding us often not to worry about her because her lifelong dreams had been fulfilled...that she had been deeply loved.
Born in Richmond, Virginia on October 11, 1925, she was the beloved daughter of Maurice Lynwood Tyler and Louise Shepherd and had one brother, Maurice Jr, who gave his life in WWII. A student at Parsons School of Design in NYC, she always had a flair for style. She traveled extensively throughout the world, and made cherished lifetime friends along the way. Betty will always be remembered for her humor and intelligence, her Southern hospitality, but most of all for her radiant smile and exceptionally warm embrace. She was an enthusiastic lover of life, relationships, great food, animals, nature, culture, and all things beautiful.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Charles Reyner, her devoted companion for over 38 years. Later in life Betty and “Mr. Wonderful” (Warren Johnson) fell deeply and remarkably in love. Both in their 70’s and visibly enamored with each other, they were the envy of all they met....because who really finds their life soul mate after seventy? They were lucky and knew it.
She is survived by her daughter Anna, her son-in-law Alan Blaustein, and their two children, Lillie and Morris, as well as her favorite cousin, Ellen, her life partner Susan and daughter Vivian.

In lieu of flowers, please give someone you love a long, meaningful hug in her honor, and try to do so on a regular basis. She would feel honored to have that be her legacy.
