Big Weather Shift Coming For Maryland

BALTIMORE, MD — After a couple doses of snow, sleet and freezing rain mixes in the past week, Maryland is in store for a warmer weekend, but one that will feature a lot of rain. The National Weather Service says the soggy weather should begin Saturday afternoon, and then predicts rain chances every day through Tuesday, except for one break.

But the precipitation will all fall as rain, as temps start to moderate Saturday with daytime highs hitting the 50s and 60s this weekend and much of next week. "Temperatures will be more seasonable today, but so will sky cover... that is, it will be cloudier than yesterday. Even milder over the weekend, but rain is likely at times," the National Weather Service says.

Get your outdoor chores done today, urges The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang. "Enjoy the dry weather. Once rain starts back up, we may stay generally wet into early next week. It's good news for our continuing drought — the weekend rains should total at least an inch. Two inches is not completely out of the question, either. Snow lovers, you may be disheartened by Sunday's mugginess."

At least one 60-degree day appears in the forecast.

Here is the updated weekend weather forecast for Maryland:

Friday: Cloudy, with a high near 41. South wind 5 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. South wind 5 to 8 mph.

Saturday: Rain, mainly after 4pm. High near 51. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Rain. Low around 47. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Sunday: Showers. High near 60. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 42. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 49.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33.

Tuesday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 43. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
