Broadneck Volleyball Forfeits Every Win From 2020 Season After Violation: AACPS

The Broadneck volleyball team forfeited all of its 2020 season wins. Officials alleged that the Bruins committed an out-of-season violation.

CAPE ST. CLAIRE, MD — The Broadneck High School varsity volleyball team forfeited all of its wins from the fall 2020 season, a press release announced on Nov. 3. Officials alleged that the Bruins committed an "out-of-season violation regarding the number of returning players who can participate on a non-school, outside team."

Leaders said the infraction happened in the 2020 to 2021 school year, just before the shortened season. Fall 2020 sports, like volleyball, played a mini-season in spring 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Broadneck went 4-1 in that abbreviated schedule, which was dubbed the fall 2020 season.

The county also disciplined the involved coach. The write-up did not identify the staffer or disclose their punishment.

The investigation was handled by the Broadneck administration and the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Office of Athletics.

This was the second high school sports penalty in recent weeks. AACPS on Oct. 25 revoked three wins from the South River High School varsity football team. In that case, the county accused an ineligible player of participating in multiple games.
