About Us

Non-Profit Organizations

The Gampopa Center, founded in 2009 by Venerable Lama Phurbu Tashi Rinpoche, offers Tibetan Buddhist teachings in Annapolis, MD. Inspired by 11th-century teacher Gampopa, the center provides weekly study sessions, courses, and events to help others receive direct insights into the Buddha's teachings.

The Gampopa Center envisions a vibrant Buddhist community that actively learns, studies, and practices the Buddha's teachings to achieve enlightenment and benefit all beings. Our center shares and sustains Buddhist teachings, welcoming everyone seeking a deeper, more meaningful life experience.

The Gampopa Center's mission is to provide spiritual refuge, respite, and wellness to all, guided by the Bodhisattva's vow to alleviate suffering. We offer guidance on the Buddhist path, meditation instruction, and assistance to those seeking to alleviate suffering.

Rinpoche’s aspiration is to reach people from all walks of life and make concepts like the cultivation of wisdom, loving kindness, compassion, and calm mind available for use in everyday life, to improve people’s perspectives on their lives and provide relief to the common and widespread experience of stress and anxiety that modern society entails.
