Hitchcock gives a masterclass in psychological suspense with his adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s gothic novel. While this was Hitchcock’s 31st film, it was his first to be made in Hollywood and its success--it won the 1941 Best Picture Oscar--immediately established him as a major player in the American film industry.
